Tribeza held their second annual Interiors Tour and we were honored to be selected as a featured Interior Designer in a Tarrytown home that belongs to one of our favorite clients!

The Tour weekend began with an exciting first for me - a TV spot on the local morning news Friday morning!  Selected to be the spokesperson for the tour on Fox 7 Good Day Austin, I spoke about details on attending, how excited I was about the tour and what it means to the Austin interior design community, and also got to give the audience a preview of the home we were showing.  In case you missed it, click here to watch the video.

final wardrobe adjustments : getting my mic and ear piece adjusted : waiting for my close up Mr DeMille : and.... we're LIVE from behind the scenes

After recovering from my first brush with celebrity status (no, I didn't get to sit in a trailer out front while we waited for our live spot time), I grabbed breakfast and my morning chai, and moved on to the task of readying the house for the tour.  While this home is meticulous at all times, there were lots of little things to think about particular to the tour.  Small breakables in the reach of little hands needed to be put away, glasses that could be knocked off the front of the wine rack were pushed to the back, personal items such as toothbrushes that the public didn't need to see were put away, and the final touch of beautiful florals designed by Carly of Margot Blair Floral were delivered and installed.  After picking up our logo printed cookies provided by Kellie's Baking Co (beautiful AND yummy) and our postcard take-away for tour goers, we were ready to share our work and inspire all who came through!

The day turned out to be gorgeous after the rain we had all week, and we couldn't be more relieved about that.  After the morning chill wore off, we had a steady stream of people through the house all day long.  I got to meet so many lovely people, answer questions, listen to the comments (What? Those are real feather wings on that light fixture?!) and share what I love about interior design.  The most lively discussions came up around the paint color Benjamin Moore's Gray Owl  (more on that here).  Each space that I design is intended to evoke an emotion and it was so gratifying to listen to the reactions as people entered each room ("I feel so elegant and sophisticated walking into this sitting room" : "I'm immediately relaxed and tranquil in this master bedroom"), and then as they discovered small details throughout.  Getting to experience the space with someone and having the opportunity to discuss the interior design process, the moments created by details throughout, and perceptions and reactions to each room one on one was a lovely experience for me!

I am so thankful to all of the lovely docents in each space greeting guests and answering questions.  I put the call out and each of these lovely ladies pictured (missing my beautiful daughter Indigo who had to get to her job) took time out of their busy school schedules to volunteer for the day (also volunteering was my lovely sister Nancy).  This was valuable time for the design students to learn about the 'real world' of interior design.  We had fun walking through the house together before the tour and they got a glimpse into the process of working with a real client.  They also got to hear first hand how the public experiences a home from their point of view through chatting with and answering questions from the tour-goers.

Olive and June is one of my favorite Austin restaurants and I especially love celebrating there with dinner and a glass of wine - especially after a wonderful day such as the Interiors Tour.  Nothing says WHOOOT like a plate of Cranberry Rose Bombolini!  Thank you to all of you who were able to attend and support my studio and the Austin design community!

Until the next tour....
